Throughout the 20th Century, many studies and initiatives took place around the world to bring light to the topic of Patient Safety.
Patient safety becomes a more widespread talking point, vastly due to the popular publication “To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System,” a report by the Institute of Medicine, published in 2000 and considered the foundation of the patient safety movement.
Momentum also motivates the establishment of international classification of patient safety and the Surgical Safety Checklist by the World Health Organization.
World Patient Safety Day (WSPD) is created in 2019 by the seventy-second World Health Assembly through the adoption by 172 Member States of the resolution “Global action on patient safety.”
The focus of WSPD this year is ‘Medication Safety”.
CyberPatient hosts a virtual conference with international experts in support of WSPD.
